Windsor Celebrates Success At House Music

The PA Hall was filled with music when the annual Inter-House Music Competition took place on Tuesday night.

After weeks of rehearsing, the hard work was rewarded by a wonderful evening of solo performances and the hotly contested House choir competition.

India Blackshaw-Britton, Year 8 Windsor, won the individual competition with her performance of Handel's Sonata in F, 2nd movement. Mrs Clare Worrell, Director of Music at St Hilda's School, who adjudicated, praised India's beautiful tone and excellent intonation, also commenting on the way that she engaged with the audience.

Crystal Ye (piano), Marina Lawrence-Mahrra (clarinet) and Grace Lee (flute) were all highly commended for their performances.

After the interval, Gloucester choir were first with Walking on Sunshine. Mrs Worrell commented on their great response to their conductor and the lovely harmonies, written by Rebecca Day, as well as Crystal Ye's accomplished accompaniment.

Windsor then performed Rolling in the Deep which was judged the winner with a great choice of soloists and excellent harmonies. The evening ended with York singing Build Me Up Buttercup which Mrs Worrell said had a great choice of tempo and good contrast in dynamics.

Windsor House Captain, Lucy Prosser, and Deputy Danielle Reid, accepted the prize for the overall winners as well as the individual and choir awards.

Mrs Chapman, the new Housemistress for York House, said "All the housemistresses are extremely proud of the hard work the girls put in. It culminated in an amazing evening. All the Houses are winners!"
