On Thursday, October 6th, PHC French students from Years 11 and 13 went to South Kensington to spend a day at the Institut Français, accompanied by Mrs Martinelli and Miss Sanchez. The girls were given a guided tour of the Institute in French which included the Ciné Lumière. This was followed by a talk on French film, particularly the Nouvelle Vague movement of the fifities and sixties, currently a topic on the A level syllabus. All girls were pleasantly surprised to find they could follow most of what was being said and, after some independent research, completed a quiz on French film . The Institute gave us a host of books, CDs and DVDs to add to the PHC library, too.
Many of the girls have now decided to become members of the Institute so they can enjoy the library to access books, films and current French music. The Institute offers many facilities to learners of French, including the delicious bistro! Ellie McLeod, Clarissa Dale and Danielle Reid all said they are looking forward to going back to enjoy the facilities on offer.
